July News

Winter has definitely set in. But that is no excuse not to go and socialise and swim. I have been told everyone who went to the Winter Solstice Party at Chris’ place had a very good evening with lots of lovely food and fun. Sounds like I missed a good evening.

Birthdays for this month are: Robert Birch 1st, Gary Smith 5th, Belinda Boyd 9th, Glenys G. 19th, Danielle 23rd, and Hilary 25th. We hope you all have a very Happy Birthday. Apologies to Shaun Williams who had a birthday last month. Hope you too had a good day.

Welcome to all new members, Srikanth, Lorraine and Nick. I have missed a few in the past so I hope you are enjoying the challenges Robert and Leonie set before you.

The Mandurah Swim was well attended and all who took part had a good day.
Results are on the notice board at the pool, as are a couple of copies of the news letter. Richard also includes it on the website, so take a peek.

Thoughts for the month: You can judge your health by what you take two at a time, stairs or pills. From S. Williams WA.

Best vitamin for making friends is B1.

My apologies for the lateness of this letter, our computer was kaput, with a very bad virus but ok now Alan hopes.

Happy Swimming,

Janet

Hi to all members…

Especially those who have gone into hibernation. We have heard from a few of you who are on the injured or sick list, hope you mend quickly so you can get back into the swimming, get well.

We are still swimming and training, the water is heated and really good for training or aerobic swimming. Don’ let yourselves become couch potatoes over the winter months, get in and keep fit.

Leonie and I will be giving some specialised coaching to individuals at each session, just to reinforce the good techniques and maybe learn to do a few of the things you always wanted to do, but left undone over summer. Be in it, we miss you.

In August a special short course relay swim meet is being held at Challenge Stadium, any takers? Let Leonie or Robert know if you want to train and enter this new fun event.

Cheers Leonie and Robert

Winter Solstice Grand Feast

We’re having a get-together to celebrate the shortest day of the year!

The theme is “Bondi Beach”.  We’ll be celebrating our arrival at Bondi in our Coast to Coast Virtual Swim over the last twelve months.

More details below…

DATE: Saturday June 20th 2009

TIME: 6pm

PLACE: Chris Paterson’s

FARE: Cheese and wine tasting from 6.30pm followed by a sumptuous feast of winter warming casseroles and dessert

ATTENDANCE: Let Leonie know if you are coming and what food you will be contributing

Hi All…

Yes we are still in training even though it is now officially winter.
Don’t let the fats roll on in the places we do not want.
Keep fit, keep training.

Distances will not be quite as much, but this is the time to concentrate on technique, and attend to things such as turns, starts and finishes.

Don’t let all the hard work you put in over last summer go to pot, maintain a good level of fitness so you will be ready for the next summer season.

PS Get your entries for the Mandurah Interclub ( one of the best Interclub events every year) to Robert at training tonight.

June News

Well the cold weather certainly came in with a vengeance. At least we had a lot of rain which was much needed. I have found the pool quite cool and think they should up the temperature a few degrees. Do you agree?

The State Swim was attended by, Yvette, Hilary, Kerry, Lorraine, Lloyd and Chris. Though Lloyd was late for one of his swims all enjoyed the experience and did well. Lisa got an award for the Open Water Swims (30-34 age group, 2008-2009) She received a certificate and mug. Congratulations Lisa.

John Maarssen recently had a hip replacement. Plenty of walking and exercising in water is the way to a speedy recovery. I know, been there don that. Have a speedy recovery John.

The international travellers are now home (Robert, Lynne, John and Rhonda), no doubt they are back in the swim.
