Hi everyone. It’s still hot and bothersome weather. I have been lucky enough to spend the last 2 weeks in Denmark (WA) where it has been in the low 20’s. We even had a lovely thunder storm and plenty of rain! So I’m ready to get back into swimming.

Australia Day Swim. Those who took part were Robert, Lynne, Bill, Ross, Jose, Hilary, Yvette, Kerry, John & Rhonda, Richard & Regina, Lorraine and Fiona all had a great day at Coogee Beach.

Bill will be off to Esperance sometime after the Busselton Swim. Have a good break Bill.

Sunday swimming will be a bit depleted as many usuals will be swimming in OWS.

Diehards like me and Norm and Norma will go for our usual leisurely swim.

This is your Captains’ speaking….

14 01 2010

Hi everyone,

Lloyd and myself (Leonie) are the captains for the 2010 year.

If you haven’t been down to swimming lately, now is the time to return. With some exciting ocean swims coming up.  Give yourself a challenge. Try the Cottesloe Classic Mile, Saturday 16 January,  Australia Day Swim at Scarborough beach on Tuesday 26 January Busselton Jetty Swim Saturday 6 February over 3600m or 1000m. These are just a few.

Also, Robert and I (coaches) have been collecting and recording distances swum throughout the last year.  We will not be doing this in 2010 unless for a special project.  So I have made a personal swim log chart for those who wish to continue to record distances for their own personal record [ask at training if you need one emailed to you].

Coogee

14 01 2010

Hi All

Between the jetty’s of Coogee Beach is a protected area of water that provides a 3km swim which provides good training for those intending to do the Busselton jetty swim next month.  We start our swim from John Graham Reserve approximately 1.5 kms  south of Coogee beach. proper.

Why not come and celebrate Australia Day with other Club members and their families at Coogee Beach (that is John Graham  Reserve end). For those intending to swim the 3km jetty to jetty return be there to be in the water at 8am sharp. Other options are walk down and swim back or just take a stroll or chill in a chair in the shade.

After all the swimmers are in we will have a picnic brunch/BBQ so bring your own food & drinks along.

Hope to see you there for a relaxing morning among friends.
-Ross

January News

6 01 2010

Welcome to our first newsletter for 2010. We hope you have all had a lovely Christmas. May you also have a safe and prosperous New Year.

Ocean Swims are in full swing so take advantage when possible. The weather has been great for these swims.

It was decided that membership fees will be $120.( $58 to Masters swimming and the balance to the club.) The extra is in lieu of fundraising during the year.

Birthdays for this month are Norma 4th, Norman 12th, Emily 26th and Bill 29th. Have a lovely day and Best Wishes to all.

Welcome to New Members…David, Linda and Tracey.

Events passed: Fremantle Fins Port Swim at South Beach. Competitors were Kerry, Yvette, Lisa, Bill, Robert and Lynne who unfortunately had a senior moment when she put her estimated time as 22mins.instead of 42mins. This is what happens when you retire! Lorraine and Linda did a novice 400m.

The annual Rottnest swim was held on a lovely day weather and sea wise. All participants enjoyed their swim. Robert, Lynne, Richard, Bill and Yvette took part. Tamara and Kate also did the swim as we met them at the bakery after.

Those who went to Rottnest for the week thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Eat, drink and be merry was the order of the day along with fun and games. Watching Belinda playing Rummykub is an education. Bzzzzzz when your time was up was a laugh.

Swims at Pinky’s and the Basin were an every day event and good exercise. The wind blew at night and got quite cold. Myself, Robert and Lynne, Bill, Barbara and Belinda all enjoyed a great break.

Bill and Lynne have now retired from the workforce though Lynne will be doing some part time work, even if it’s to give Robert some space!!! Bill will be off to Darwin and other places throughout the year so good luck in your travels Bill.

Poor Richard and Regina went to Ireland for Christmas!!! They must be frozen in -2 snowy temperatures!! They will definitely need to come home to thaw out!!!! [-2 would be warm! - Ric]

Apologies for sending out December’s Newsletter. My husband who did this for me had a very senior moment.

Presentation Day will be Wednesday 24th February after swimming.

Please check your OWS guide for swims that interest you.

Sun.3rd Leighton Beach.

Sat 9th Scarborough Beach.

Sat 16th Cottesloe Classic mile

Tues 26th Australia Day swim

A Thought… Do less and you will savour the things you do more.

Sad news .. Derek Unkovich passed away on Christmas Day. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this sad time.

Take care and enjoy your swims…

Janet

For our mob Yvette is Queen of the Lake for 2009! So for next year all had better get into training and take her crown!!!! (Report by Robert).

Robert has the full results if you are interested.

Coming Events.  5th Dec. Swim Thru. Rottnest.

19th Dec. Tower to Tower Swim Thru. Scarborough Beach to Trigg Beach.

My apologies for getting the AGM date wrong. It will be on Sun. 13th Dec. after swimming at 1015. Please make the effort to attend. We need you as much as you need us.

Merle has had an operation on her arm to fix the tendons. She is well. It will take 6 months to get back to normal. Her sister Jean is there to help out and between them they have two good arms.

Christmas Party. About 30 people attended. Good food (ably cooked by Doug), plenty of lovely salads and sweets provided by various members. Good company and conversation. A really nice evening!

Some of us are off to Rottnest on Wednesday and some on Friday for a week of swimming, fun, no TV, games and reading and keeping our brains in gear and just relaxation. Some of us will swim the Rotto swim in Thompson Bay and some of us will watch and support those who do. Whatever it will be fun!!!!!

The 2009 Committee and Members wish you all a very Happy Christmas and New Year,

Janet
